It is truly amazing how God works through prayer. When we pray, we are connecting to God in a way that binds our hearts with His. Any intentional time we spend with God will change us in many ways because being in His presence always changes us.

When we start our prayers with adoration, we are starting with remembering who God is and His character. It is easy to start a prayer by asking for things, believe me, I did it for years. Now that I have learned the importance of adoration, I set my heart on who God is and His character. When I remember these things, it changes the rest of my prayers because I know He is faithful and true and that nothing goes without Him knowing.

Confession and thanksgiving are also huge parts of my prayer life. If I have started with adoration, these two come much easier for me. I know that God is holy and worthy of all glory and honor, which reminds me of my own sin and failures. I also find it much easier to thank Him for specific things, people, or kindnesses that He has given me. I know I do not deserve any of it, but because of His goodness and love for me, He gives generously.

When I even get a glimpse of who God is, it changes how I pray. It reminds me of how our life on earth is temporal. It reminds me that God has a bigger plan than right here and right now. Being more eternally focused helps guide and prioritize my prayers. It helps align my heart with God’s will and focuses my prayer and the rest of my day on His will and through the lens of eternity.
